Performing Arts presents: Les Miserables School Edition
This epic story of Les Miserables recounts the struggle
against adversity in 19th century France.
Imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean
Valjean begins a journey for redemption by becoming an honest businessman
and later the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father
- violating his parole in the process.
The relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible,
consequently pursues him through the years. At the same time, Valjean’s
adoptive daughter falls for Marius, an idealistic student soon to be involved
with a doomed student uprising.

Writer and director Xabi Molia handles the heavy subject of unemployment
with humor and poignancy as he explores the trials and tribulations of

and her neighbor Mathieu (Denis Podalyes), both threatened with eviction
and forced to face the job search head-on.
As the two join forces to strategize their game plan but continue to inefficiently

An extraordinarily expressive performer and intensely intelligent musician,
Paul Jacobs has breathed new life into organ music.
His sweeping marathon performances of the complete works of J.S. Bach,
Messiaen and other composers, as well as his presentations of new works
and core repertoire, engage and invigorate audiences, colleagues and critics
alike.
Jacobs makes his Royce Hall debut on the historic Skinner Organ in a program
that will feature elements of the piece that earned him the 2010 Best
Solo Instrumental Grammy—and the first-ever such award for solo organ—Messiaen’s
Livre du Saint Sacrement, the composer’s last organ work.

staid country life - shoe fetishes, simmering anti-Semitism and a brutal
rape and murder are all pieces of the unsettling debris that rise to the
