SEPCTACLE
Charlotte
de Turckheim : one-woman show «Ça va nettement mieux !»
Lactrice
et comédienne française, Charlotte de Turckheim présente
son dernier one-woman show «Ça va nettement mieux !».

Launch of MICHEL GONDRY'S new books:
'You'll Like this Film Because You're in it'
and:'We Won the War but Not the Battle'
French director Gondry will be signing
books and chatting.
After the signing the audience will be treated to a very special live
performance by J-Lep!
About the book: 'You'll Like this Film
Because You're in it'
Michel Gondrys debut book is a functional memoir of his quest to
put the tools of filmmaking in the hands of as many people as possible.
At New Yorks Deitch Projects, in February and March of 2008, Gondry
emulated the heroic example of his characters, constructing a do-it-yourself
film studio in which any visitor could assemble their own film from extant
plot summaries and rent the results. His aim: I intend to prove
that people can enjoy their time without being part of the commercial
system and serving it
Ultimately, I am hoping to create a network
of creativity and communication that is guaranteed to be free and independent
from any commercial institution. This book chronicles Gondrys
journey towards what he calls The Be Kind Rewind Protocol,
and serves as an inspirational guide to creativity and the art of having
fun.

VERNISSAGE
ARTS
from
6 pm to 8pm
Bernard
Frize
French artist Bernard Frize has worked with systems and rules; an extreme
conceptual and technical rigour in his practice since the late 70s.
Heavily influenced by Marxism and a practice dominated by a conceptualism
and the demythologizing of the work of art, Frizes practice
is interested in the realities of picture making and notions of work,
time and tools.
You should be able to read each decision of the painter from the
painting. A painting should make you able to figure out how it has been
made, as though you could have painted it yourself. What I value in good
paintings is that they look so simple.
In the Conducteur series, some of which are featured in this exhibition,
the single gesture of applying paint to a surface, long fundamental to
the practice of painting, is broken down in the system of rules set up
to create the series. Attention is brought to the elements of painting.
The brushstoke and application of color are distinguished by being held
apart, then brought together in a synthesis that reveals earlier
analysis even while annihilating it.
These pictures in essence present images of their own construction.
In his practice, a painting becomes an image of the depths, both perspectival
and metaphorical, a worked flat surface can reveal. In this way it evokes
the cooperation of the makers activity and the viewers, because
it is the work of looking that transforms the visible
into the meaningful.
With Mr. Frizes works, while the three-dimensionality of the image
is
illusory, the sensation of depth is real, a result of the way hand, materials,
mind, and eye can work together.

Comment je me suis disputé...
("ma vie sexuelle") (My Sex Life
or How I Got Into an Argument)
Full of Life: Arnaud Desplechin
1996/color/178 min. | Scr: Arnaud Desplechin, Emmanuel Bourdieu; dir:
Arnaud Desplechin; w/ Mathieu Amalric, Emmanuelle Devos, Chiara Mastroianni.
A prequel of sorts to Rois & Reine (Kings and
Queen), Amalric (garnering his first Cesar) is a part-time philosophy
lecturer laboring over a 400 page doctoral thesis while trying to break
off his ten-year relationship with Devos. The film's round-robin bedswapping
and hyper-articulate ensemble recalls Rohmer, but Desplechin's indefatigable
exuberance is singular.
