Les
Vacances de Monsieur Hulot
MR. HULOTS
HOLIDAY
1953, Janus Films, 85 min.
Dir. Jacques Tati. Tatis first film as Monsieur Hulot, one of cinema's
great comic personas, finds him going to a resort town for a vacation
where chaos predictably ensues. A whimsical hymn to the joys of life and
the funny little things we often fail to notice.
Jour de fête
THE BIG DAY
1947, Janus Films, 79 min.
Jacques Tatis feature debut as director showcases his performance
as a mailman attempting to streamline delivery in his small town. But
he soon finds his attempts at modernization and a coincidental Bastille
Day celebration dont mix. This is a 1995 restoration of the film's
original color version.
Both films in French with English subtitles.

Yves Saint Laurent: His Life and Times
David Teboul, Director. 2003
During the last half of the 20th century, Yves St. Laurent was the definition
of French haute couture.
With exclusive access to St. Laurent and his inner circle, filmmaker David
Teboul outlines the influential designer's life and career, from his youth
in Algeria and his selection as Christian Dior's successor at age 21,
to the formation of his own world-famous firm in the 1960s.
Interviewed are St. Laurent's mother and his longtime business manager
and partner Pierre Berge.

Yves Saint Laurent: 5 Avenue Marceau 75116 Paris
In this companion piece to his biographical profile YVES ST. LAURENT:
TIME REGAINED, filmmaker David Teboul peers behind the doors of one of
the world's leading fashion houses.
As he prepared his last women's collection in 2001, St. Laurent allowed
cameras to observe the evolution of his vision for the first time.
During roughly eight weeks, St. Laurent's simple black-and-white drawings
are transformed through many iterations into glorious, colorful reality.
A rare and revealingly intimate glimpse of the creative process in action.

Jessica
Fichot at the Levitt Pavilion Pasadena
Chanteuse and songwriter Jessica Fichot is a lot like her hometown of
Paris: French at heart, but with a soul that's truly international. Her
multi-ethnic French / Chinese / American upbringing colors the songs on
her debut album. It's called Le Chemin, "The Path," and for
good reason: Jessica takes the listener on a twisting journey out of the
French chanson tradition, into the lands of gypsy jazz, Chinese and Latin
American folk music, through the classic American repertoire, and off
into the wilderness of her imagination.
Where: Memorial
Park - Pasadena
The Levitt Pavilion is located at 85 E. Holly St. in the heart of Old
Pasadena at Memorial Park, right off the Fair Oaks exit from the 210 freeway,
and on the corner of Walnut and Raymond.

Series: The Female Gaze
Cleo
From 5 to 7 (Cléo de 5 à
7)
Agnes Varda injected a much-needed female perspective into the French
New Wave canon with her 1962 debut feature Cleo From 5 To 7, a real-time
unfolding of events as Cleo (Corinne Marchand), a conceited pop singer
who comes to terms with how the rest of the world works outside her bubble,
as she awaits the results of a biopsy to determine whether or not she
has cancer.
In this vibrant mix of gutsy melodrama and experimental technique, Varda
gives us a portrait of day-to-day, hour-by-hour living at its most engrossing.
