John Richardson on "A Life of Picasso"
British-born art historian John Richardson has devoted his career to researching
and writing about artists whose work changed the way we look at the world.
For more than two decades, he has been at work on a multi-volume biography
of Pablo Picasso. To mark the release of volume three of that series,
and to celebrate the recent gift to LACMA of more than two dozen works
by the great Spaniard, Richardson joins LACMA curators Stephanie Barron
and Kevin Salatino to discuss Picasso's life.
Richardson will sign copies of A Life of Picasso: The Triumphant Years,
1917-1932 following the presentation.
Free, no reservations required.

Patrons and Collectors of Sèvres Porcelain in England and America
French Art at The Huntington Series
Rosalind Savill, director of the Wallace Collection in London, will discuss
the English passion for French porcelain that fueled a collecting
frenzy after the French Revolution, and how, a century later, many superlative
pieces owned by English aristocrats were purchased by American millionaires
like Henry Huntington. This lecture is one of a series celebrating the
publication of the new catalog, French Art of the 18th Century at The

Maillols Miniatures
Over the course of his art collecting career, Norton Simon acquired close
to 50 works by French artist Aristide Maillol (born 1861), many
of which are on permanent display in the Museums galleries and garden.
The exhibition Maillols Miniatures offers a rare look at those Maillol
works that are not usually on view, providing a better understanding of
the artists working methods.
Included in the exhibition is a video of an interview
with Dina Vierny, Maillols muse and studio model, and now the director
of the Musée Maillol in Paris. Over a period of ten years, Vierny
posed for many of Maillols famous sculptures, including those that
grace the garden of the Museum and this intimate exhibition. Filmed in
the summer of 2007, the interview offers a rare glimpse into Madame Viernys
association with Maillol, as well as the story of Norton Simons
interest in Maillols artworks.
